Well this is it, our first proper episode and given it is going out on April 1st we thought we ought to tackle Autism Acceptance Month and what it means to us, why we think it important and some general chat about being neurodivergent.

Our next episode will follow in two weeks and we will be discussing empathy and theory of the mind - and mostly rubbishing the insane "studies" by people who infantilise and try to "cure" people with divergent brains. I have the bleep button standing by.

We have a whole series of interesting topics we want to cover and a dozen guests already lined up, but we would like to hear what you want us to cover. Drop us a DM on our Twitter channel @AtypicalThePod

Notes:

I referenced a news article during the recording, the first I found was from the BBC in 2017 but I have since found this better one from Wales Online that suggests this is actually from 2015! https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/took-barber-three-months-cut-10402729

And finally, this is our first attempt at doing something like this, we are all keen and doing this ourselves but alas we do not yet have broadcast quality equipment. I did the best I could with 5 hours in editing software and we managed to produce what I think is a good first effort. We will of course improve and thanks for sticking with us. Also any advice is always welcomed. Our cover art was very kindly done for us by Sparkey.

As ever we thank you, our loyal listeners for sticking with us. We would love to hear from you and our Twitter is open @AtypicalThePod for messages and comments.

Have a topic you would like us to cover, or do you fancy joining us for a natter, maybe tell us about your area of interest or expertise and share these things with everyone.

We would also recommend our friend The Autistic Women for another great view on living with autism and our friends at the All Bets are Off podcast who cover addiction.
